6 Last Minute DIY Halloween Costumes

Are you trying to make Halloween memories without spending a fortune? If you’re in need of some DIY costume ideas, try one of these. Each is simple to make, requiring just a few supplies and a little bit of your time. The result is a Halloween costume ready for trick-or-treating or the office party.

1. Spider

You’ll need:

  • A pair of black pants
  • A black hoodie OR a black long-sleeve shirt and a black cap
  • 3 pairs of long black socks (trouser socks, knee socks, etc. Check your local dollar store!)
  • 1 pair black gloves
  • A bunch of newspaper
  • Black thread
  • A needle for sewing

What to Do

First, stuff all six socks loosely with newspaper.

Set your hoodie or long-sleeve shirt face down, and set your stuffed socks on the back. You’ll want them spread out, with three on each side. Remember to leave a little space between each sock.

Use your needle and thread to fasten the legs to the shirt.

When you’re ready, put on your black pants, add your spider arm shirt/hoodie, and pull on the hood or your hat.

2. Jellyfish

You’ll need:

  • A clear umbrella
  • 1 roll of white streamers
  • Scissors
  • Clear tape
  • White pants
  • A white shirt

What to Do:

Cut streamers that are each about 2 feet long. You’ll need several, so go through the whole roll.

Tape each streamer to the underside of your opened umbrella, going around the perimeter.

When you’re ready to put it all together, put on your white clothes. Then open your umbrella and hold it over your head.

3. Unicorn

You’ll need:

  • A white hoodie
  • White leggings
  • A hot glue gun
  • Two colors of yarn
  • Scissors
  • 1 sheet white paper
  • 1 gold marker
  • Tape

What to Do:

Roll your paper into a cone shape. Secure it with tape and cut off any excess.

Draw designs on the horn with the marker. Hot glue the bottom of the horn to the hood.

Wrap the two colors of yarn around your hand 10 times and cut free from the skeins. Tie a short piece around one end of the yarn loops, and cut the other ends to create a pom-pom type look. Hot glue this to the top of the hood to start your mane.

Repeat until your mane is full and runs down the hood.

To create a tail, wrap the yarn around your arm 15-20 times. Tie a short piece of yarn around one end and cut the other ends. Then hot glue the tied end to the back of the leggings.

4. Wilson from Home Improvement

You’ll need:

  • Boots
  • Long cargo pants
  • A flannel jacket
  • A bucket hat
  • 15 large popsicle sticks
  • Hot glue gun

What to Do:

Besides putting on the base of the costume, the only thing you’ll need to do is make your fence.

Put 2 of your popsicle sticks side-by-side. Next, hot glue a stick to the back of the two that are slightly raised to create a fence post.

Repeat three more times for a total of four fence posts.

Now connect your posts with two horizontal sticks. Just hot glue the posts onto the beams, remembering to leave some space between each.

Glue one final stick as a handle.

Remember to cover your face with the fence before talking to anyone!

5. Minion from Despicable Me

You’ll need:

  • Denim overalls
  • A yellow hoodie
  • Swimming googles
  • Silver spray paint
  • 3 black pipe cleaners
  • 3 safety pins
  • Black gloves

What to Do:

Spray paint the googles and let dry.

Use the safety pins to attach the pipe cleaner to the hood for minion hair.

6. Tourist

You’ll Need:

  • Bermuda shorts
  • Sandals
  • White socks
  • A Camera
  • Travel brochures

What to Do:

This last minute costume comes together quickly. Sling the camera around your neck and put your brochures in your short pockets.
