Relaxing on a budget

Stress Relief: 3 Ways to De-Stress Without a Luxury Spa Budget

As a busy mom, it can be hard to carve out some time to relax, especially if the budget is tight. It is so important to take a few moments at least once a week to take care of yourself to de-stress and reset your nerves. You may be thinking that is just not an option with the outrageous fees that spas and salons charge for their services. The great news is you can de-stress and pamper yourself in your own home with some items you probably already have on hand. The following are just a few ways you can have an at-home spa day without breaking the bank:

Take a Detox Bath

One of the most relaxing ways to pamper yourself is to take a hot detox bath. This is one of the cheapest ways to take a few minutes to yourself. Draw a bath with water as warm as you can stand it. Take a cup of Epsom salt and pour it into the bath water. While it is diluting, add a few drops of lavender essential oils. The Epsom salt helps to draw toxins from the body while the lavender oil is a calming agent. Epsom salt is very inexpensive. You can purchase a large carton for less than four dollars in most any grocery store. Lavender oil is also inexpensive. You can find a small bottle for less than ten dollars online, which can last for a long time.

Homemade Body Scrub

Freshen your skin with a homemade body scrub made from materials easily found in your kitchen pantry and bathroom. Sugar scrubs are used to exfoliate the body and remove any dead skin and imperfections. You are left with soft, silky skin that is fully moisturized and glowing.

To make sugar scrub, you only need two basic ingredients — sugar and oil. You can use regular granulated sugar or brown sugar. Confectioners’ sugar will not work because it will not exfoliate as well. You can use almost any oil as long as it is light. Canola and grapeseed are ideal. Light olive oil is also a good option. If you do not have any of these oils on hand, you also can use baby oil. Combine equal parts of sugar and oil together until it is thoroughly combined. When you are ready to use your sugar scrub, put some on your palm and rub it into your skin. Allow it to sit for a few minutes then rinse it away.

Do a Home Manicure

Instead of doing a simple polish job, take some time to do a really thorough manicure. You can pick up the supplies you will need at any discount or drug store. Many of these things may already be in your bathroom. You will need nail polish remover, your favorite color polish, topcoat, a cuticle pusher, hand cream or moisturizer, and a nail file.

Wipe your nails down with nail polish remover to remove any old polish that may be left behind. Next, file your nails to your preferred length. Using the cuticle pusher, push back your cuticles as much as you can without causing pain. Rub some moisturizer into your hands and cuticles and allow it to absorb. Once your hands are dry, begin to polish them. After applying two coats, apply your topcoat to protect your nice manicure.

These spa treatments are very economical and can be done any day of the week. You can have a luxury spa day for very little money. The only thing it will cost is a bit of your time, which you certainly deserve!
